for every member of the Deerfield Police Department is to
consistently seek and find ways to affirmatively promote,
preserve and deliver a feeling of security, safety and
quality services to members of our community
THE
POLICE DEPARTMENT OPERATION
Patrol
Division
The
Patrol Division is the nucleus of the Police Department
and has the responsibility of responding
to criminal incidents as well as calls for service.
Because patrol officers respond to a wide variety
of calls, they must be trained to handle those situations.
Officers are trained in major crime investigation,
accident investigation, breath-alcohol testing, crisis
intervention, defensive driving, juvenile law and
procedures, evidence collection and crime prevention to
name a few Within the patrol division there are
several special units that have been established to
assisted with everyday operations:

D.A.R.E.
Officer: One officer is assigned to D.A.R.E. on a
full time basis and two officers on a part time
basis.

Truck
Enforcement Officers: Several of our officers are
trained second division truck enforcement
specialists.

Bike
Patrol: Officers are assigned to the Bike patrol
during the summer months to assist the patrol
division.

Officer
Friendly: The
Officer Friendly program has been very successful in
encouraging communication with the youth of the
community and promoting their safety and welfare.
A police officer contacts the students in the
classroom in an effort to educate the communities
youth on laws, safety and crime prevention.

Community
Service Officer: Assists with officers duties; lock
outs, disabled motorists, ect.

Investigations:
Officers assigned work on cases that involved
felonies and misdemeanors.

Specially
Assigned Units: Officers are also assigned to special
units in Lake County such as; M.E.G. Unit, Major
Crimes Unit, and the Major Accident Reconstruction
team.
